About Us

Dr. Alexis Mahon, LAc

Dr. Alexis Mahon, LAc. has been practicing acupuncture in Colorado since 2016.  She holds a Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science, and is Licensed Acupuncturist and Diplomate of Chinese Herbalism.

Alexis first became interested in Traditional East Asian Medicine as a teenager, when a high school friend encouraged her to try acupuncture to help treat a childhood illness that was stubborn and resistant treatment. She was amazed by the results, and was instantly fascinated to learn how it worked.  At age 19, she was offered an apprenticeship in Denver with one of the first licensed acupuncturists in Colorado. At the time, she chose to pursue a career in Education, as she wanted to explore teaching as a “mode of healing”.  Through her years working with the Boston and Philadelphia public school systems, she stayed in close touch with Chinese Medicine as a patient,  and regularly got acupuncture for work stress and immune boosting. She did not get sick one single time during those years. Life eventually came full circle, and in 2012 she returned to Colorado and began a formal study and practice of Traditional East Asian Medicine.

Alexis’s work starts from the basic premise that health and healing live inside us all. It is the body of the patient that “does the work”.  Her training and her practice  focuses on trusting this innate capacity for healing, and inherent goodness and wisdom that exist in each person.

In her career, Alexis has held clinical appointments as a female fertility acupuncture specialist at Northern Colorado Fertility Acupuncture Clinic in Fort Collins, CO, and an oncology centered practice at Calaway-Young Cancer Center at Valley View Hospital in  Glenwood Springs, CO. These positions give her in-depth experience in being part of an integrative biomedical and complementary care team. She is  now very comfortable working across-discipline with other providers and modalities, as is often required for contemporary American patients.  Additionally, serving as the Manager of Chautauqua Apothecary in Boulder, CO, gave her years of direct study with Chinese Herbs under the guidance of renowned US-based Chinese Herbalists, as well as continued internships and study in Japanese-style acupuncture. Her personal interests include: local food systems, playing in and on water, her family (blood, chosen, and especially her children), dancing, the question of repair and rebuilding in human beings, and a practice of prayer and meditation.

Above all, Alexis loves people. She views our time here together as a gift, and hopes that this work can offer some contribution towards the well-being of the world.

I look forward to working with you at our next session.
